Wild news < BACK
If you find a leveret just lying in your garden, in the grass, or in the field, do not touch it or take it to keep, its mother hasn't abandoned it.
Leverets stay alone all day, lying low on the ground. This behaviour is their natural defence against predators. The mother doesn't stay near her babies. She only comes once, at night, to feed them with her extremely nutritious milk.
If it is necessary to move the baby, do so with gardening gloves or just regular latex gloves and rub them in the dirt so that you don't get any human scent on the leveret. If the baby smells like a human, the mother will reject it and will no longer feed it.
